Sikkim Travel Guide
Sikkim became a part of the Indian federation on the 16th May 1975, when the monarchy was established. The people of Sikkim opted to become a part of India through a referendum. The erstwhile rulers of Sikkim were the Chogyals. Sikkim is one of the smallest states in India. It is a land of lofty Himalayan peaks and mainly spectacular mountainous terrain. Till recently China did not recognise Sikkim as part of India, but they did so in 2003. In return, India recognised Tibet as part of China. The state of Sikkim shares borders with Nepal, China and Bhutan.
