The St. Peter's Basilica is located in Vatican City. The Baroque style church was built between 1506 and 1626. Until 1989 the church was the largest one worldwide, after 1989 the Basilica Notre-Dame de la Paix at the Ivory Coast became the largest. The St. Peter's Basilica has a large interior; it covers an area of 23.000 m² and has a capacity of 60.000 people. Michelangelo designed the dome and became chief architect in 1546. The dome is 42.3 meters wide, consists of bricks and it rises 120 meters above the floor. The interior consists of many monuments out of the renaissance, as well as the Michelangelo's pieta. There are four piers that support the dome, these piers are 45 meters high and have a perimeter of 7 meters. The church is located at the St. Peter's square where you have a beautiful panoramic view.
