Jammu & Kashmir is in the extreme north of India. The state has been described as a “Paradise on Earth”. It covers an area of 222,237 sq.kms. It is a breathtakingly beautiful, but, troubled land. The disputed areas are called Pakistan Occupied Kashmir in India and Indian Occupied Kashmir in Pakistan! In this area is K2, or Godwin Austin, at 8611 metres, the second highest peak in the world, after Mt. Everest. The state is renowned for its carpets and Pashmina shawls.
